Welcome to Mrs. Holman's Art Room
Creativity has always been part of who I am—it’s in my DNA. As a child, you could often find me drawing or writing made-up stories, dreaming of a career that would allow me to create. I pursued that dream by earning a B.A. in Interior Design with a minor in Art Studio from Eastern Kentucky University in 2003. I chose design because I wanted a creative career that could also give me the flexibility to be present in my children’s lives.
Over the years, I worked on a variety of projects - room renovations, church remodeling designs, theater sets for plays and VBS, murals, and more. When my sons were little, I discovered cake decorating, inspired by the shows on TV. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a thriving career. After only a few months of learning, I opened my own bakery, Bit of Whimsy Cakes, specializing in sculpted designs and wedding cakes. I became known for my bold flavors, vibrant colors, metallics, and textures - cakes that were as stunning as they were delicious. There’s nothing quite like hearing someone ask, “Is that a cake?!” when seeing one of my creations.
Running my own business taught me so much. I built a brand, became one of the most sought-after cake artists in central Kentucky, had the opportunity to teach cake decorating at EKU’s community education program, and even competed on Food Network. More than that, I found worth and significance in using my creativity to impact others.
In 2022, I made the difficult decision to close my business to spend more time with my family and focus on my well-being. After some time off, I began substitute teaching in 2024 and quickly discovered a new passion - teaching. Connecting with students was incredibly rewarding. One moment that changed everything was when a student told me I made art “make sense” and asked if I could teach every day. I knew then that I had found my next creative path.
In 2025, I began pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Art at the University of the Cumberlands. I am excited to continue learning, growing, and sharing my love of art with students, helping them discover their own creative passions and lifelong appreciation for the arts.
I live in Richmond, Kentucky with my husband of 26 years, Chris, and our three children - Gabe, Isaiah, and Shelby.

Building, Baking, and Teaching - A Lifelong Journey of Creativity

Top 10 Finalist for the Out of the Box Challenge by American Cake Decorating Magazine. I was given a prompt with client info, colors, style and materials. The challenge was to create a cake for the clients and write a tutorial for the magazine. So much fun!
On the set of The Big Bake for Food Network Canada. The episode was called "Santa On Cake-cation" where we had to create a cake with special effects that featured Santa on vacation. We sent him to Vegas and has working lights and fountains!
I was featured on the judges panel for 6 episodes of season 3 of Buddy vs. Duff on Food Network. Due to the pandemic, Buddy and Duff competed from studios on opposite sides of the country. Professional cake artists were brought in virtually to judge. It was a fantastic experience!
